ODOT, in partnership with the City of Molalla, is improving safety at the intersection of Oregon 213 and Toliver Road in Molalla by constructing a roundabout.
Roundabout construction update
Work is progressing nicely to build the roundabout on OR 213 at Toliver Road. While the intersection is closed until Aug. 31, we ask that you travel safely on your alternate routes.
Two weeks into our intersection closure, the following activities are underway:
- Installing new waterline and stormwater utilities.
- Installing new light pole foundations.
- Preparing the intersection to form the foundation of the roundabout.
- Installing the new culvert under Bear Creek.
Over the next several weeks, crews will finish the underground utility work and continue to build the foundation and base layers of the roundabout.
The entire intersection is being excavated at once, requiring a closure of the intersection to all users.
The new culvert consists of pre-cast concrete boxes that are set into place.
The culvert pieces are in position under where the surface of the highway will be.
About the project
ODOT, in partnership with the City of Molalla, is improving safety at the intersection of OR 213 and Toliver Road in Molalla by constructing a roundabout.
Currently, the intersection of OR 213 and Toliver Road is controlled by stop signs on Toliver Road and has a high rate of crashes. A roundabout will improve safety by reducing sharp turns while also accommodating the type of traffic that uses it, including large vehicles like trucks, buses and agricultural equipment.
Constructing the roundabout requires widening the intersection at Toliver Road and replacing an existing culvert carrying Bear Creek under Oregon 213. The entire intersection will be excavated at one time, which will leave a hole in the roadway during construction. Because of this, all users will need to detour.
The intersection of OR 213 and Toliver Road will be closed July 6 to Aug. 31, 2023.
Local access to homes and businesses is open up to the work zone, but no traffic will be permitted through the intersection.
