The City of Molalla owns and operates a water utility that serves the water needs of the entire city limits. The system takes source water from the Molalla River, pumps it to a Water Treatment Plant near the river, gets it ready for human consumption, stores it in two tanks, then distributes it through a series of water lines to the City of Molalla for use in drinking, bathing, cooking, cleaning, irrigation, fire suppression, and more.

With Molalla's population growing at one of the highest rates in the state over the past 5-7 years, and seemingly exploding in 2021 and 2022 with few signs of slowing, many people are nervous about the water system. Adding to those concerns is the fact that in the Summer of 2020 the City of Molalla experienced level 1 water curtailment.

This page is intended to provide information and answer questions on the Molalla Water System, Water Curtailment, and the Projects being undertaken to ensue the City has a sufficient supply of water to meet the needs of the City now and in the future.

Thank you for your question!  I think it's appropriate to say here that great minds think alike.  One of the highest priority projects for the water system is moving the intakes to a point deeper in the river.  The project team will be highlighting this project in a newsfeed article here on the Molalla Water System page... it was the third in order for a bi-weekly highlight, but in the name of 'first come, first served' we will bump this up to the top of the list.  Our first feature will come out within the next two weeks and will be announced on the City's Facebook Page and the SMS Text notification system.  If you'd like to see what is planned for feature water project articles so far, please check out the newsfeed on this page, or use this direct link: https://current.cityofmolalla.com/molalla-s-water-system/news_feed/upcoming-articles

Thank you for your question, I'm sure it is shared by many in the community!  There are several projects underway and in planning to ensure reliable water supplies now and in the future, so many in-fact that the project team is putting out a bi-weekly article on the various projects, their status, and their impacts.

For now, there is a list of upcoming articles on the Water Information News Feed (see photograph) right here on the Molalla's Water System Page that lists many of the projects set to be highlighted and explained in future features, here is a direct link: https://current.cityofmolalla.com/molalla-s-water-system/news_feed/upcoming-articles

The project team will announce new articles on the City's Facebook Page and the SMS Text Message notification system, so stay tuned for more!
